the amount of “oh, now Uhura is a good character!” commentary coming out in the wake of those set photos are disturbing me to no end.

like, her character in the first movie:

1. intercepted the signal from the Romulan ship, thereby SETTING THE ENTIRE PLOT IN MOTION
2. defended her role on the Enterprise to Spock, earning her place on the ship
3. conducted herself calmly and professionally through the destruction of an entire planet and massive danger faced by the crew of the ship

but that character was useless

and as soon as a phaser is in her hand, she’s a good character
